My Windows Won't Update!

One thing that I hear a lot from people that are still using Microsoft's Windows 7 is My Windows Won't Update! I'm sure that Microsoft broke the updating process somewhere with a previous update but you can now fix that spinning icon. The method that i've used is pretty straightforward at fixing the endlessly spinning update cycle. (Before starting these steps it is always good to restart your computer)

  1. Make sure that you end Windows Update
  2. Click the Start Button (Windows 7)
  1. Where it says "Search Programs and Files"… Type run
  2. Another box should pop up
  3. In the white box right by Open: Type services.msc
  4. Find Windows Update at the bottom
  5. Right Click on Windows Update
  6. Hover over All Tasks-> Stop
  7. Keep this window open as we will refer back to this in step 3
  8. Now that Windows Update is stopped. Its time to download the file to make things better Windows6.1-KB3172605-x64.msu or Windows6.1-KB3172605-x86.msu
  9. Go back to the Services window
  10. Right click on Windows Update
  11. Hover over All Tasks-> Start
  12. Run the Windows6.1-KB3172605-x64.msu file
  13. Once installed it is recommended to reboot your computer.
  14. Log back in and you should be all good to go. I'd recommend running windows updates then coming back in about 5-10 minutes depending on your ISP download/upload
